Middle School Programs:

 

STEM Program
Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Program

The MIT STEM Program is a year-round academic enrichment opportunity provided free of charge to talented middle school students from Boston, Cambridge, and Lawrence, MA who want to explore their interest in science, technology, engineering and math. The program includes a five-week Summer Institute, an academic year mentoring program and a parent programming series.

MSBP
MIT Science of Baseball Program

MSPB is a four-week summer programaimed at improving the math and science skills of entering eight grade boys in Boston and Cambridge by building on their interest in baseball. Starting in 2008, particiapnts in MSBP will also have the oppurtunity to particiapte in an academic year mentoring program.

Saturday Engineering & Enrichment Discovery Academy

SEED Academy is a seven semester enrichment and technical career exploration program focused on strengthening students' math, science, and communication skills through engineering activities for high school students in Boston, Cambridge, and Lawrence, MA.

SEED Confronting Obstacles and Realizing Excellence (C.O.R.E) Program

SEED C.O.R.E Program is focused on increasing the quantitative reasoning skills through a 2-week math intensive course fo rhigh school students in Boston and Cambridge.

MITES Program
Minority Introduction to Engineering and Science Program

MITES is a six and a half week residential summer program that provides the top high school seniors in the nation with the challenging and supportive academic experienes needed to be successful in America's top universities. The program supports MIT's mission to provide all of our students with the intellectual stimulation of a diverse campus community and to serve the nation's need for a diverse pool of highly qualified scientists and engineers, including underrepresented minorities.

MIT/YMCA Partnership in Engineering, Sccience, & Technology Exploration.

MIT/YMCA Partnership in Engineering, Science, & Technology MYPESTE provides local students with a 2-week experience on MIT's campus that includes lessons on roller coaster physics, biology, math, robotics, and tours of the chemistry nanotechnology, media, civil and environmental engineering, aeronautics/astronautics, electron microprobe, and Sloan Automotive laboratories. Students also visit the MIT Musuem.

Student Bridges

"The mission of Student Bridges is to increase college access & success for underrepresented students by building partnerships withlocal schools & community organizations; offering colleges awareness, preparation & success activities; & advocating for enhanced institutional & public policies & practices."

Program Components:

1. College Preparatory Academic Tutoring/Mentoring:

Student Bridges places UMass students as tutor-mentors at partner schools & programs in the Holyoke-Springfield are. Tutor-mentors are required to enroll in an academic component course.

2. Community Outreach and College Awareness:

Student Bridges hosts college awareness & preparation workshops,trips to UMass, & community-based events that encourage & prepare youth to attend college.

3. Policy Advocacy:

Student Bridges collaborates with faculty, schools, community organizations, & national & local coalitions to advocate for policies & practices that support college access & success for underreresented students.

4. Supporting Retention:

Student Bridges collaborates with Freshman Achieving More for Undergraduate Success (FAMUS) toprovide socialnetworks & support for underrepresented students enrolled at UMass.
